Aboriginal Kinship Care

Phase 1 of the Aboriginal Carer Services primary objective is to increase the proportion of Aboriginal children who are currently in or entering care, that are safely placed with Aboriginal foster and kinship carers as opposed to other placement types in the Northern Territory.

The Aboriginal Kinship Care Support Officer will deliver Phase 1 of Aboriginal Carer Services through finding, increasing and developing a register of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families, foster and kinship carers.

The Kinship Care Project Officer will:

  • assist Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families to become registered with Territory Families as Carers.
  • organise and co-facilitate group education session to increase awareness and understanding of the foster and kinship carer’s role.
